Place-based blends

Every Teko blend is built around a place — its landscape, its plants, its way of taking tea. Iceland was the first. Colorado is next. One cup, and you're somewhere else.

Our Story

From Iceland to America

Teko Tea was founded in Kópavogur, Iceland by Sigrún Jenný Bardadóttir, pairing premium sourced tea with native Icelandic herbs — hand-picked from the wild, used for over a thousand years as teas and remedies.

I found Teko Tea in the airport, on my way home from Iceland. I'd been traveling overseas with my family — two kids and my now ex-husband — and Iceland was our last stop before flying home to Colorado. We'd all been in Copenhagen and were supposed to fly to Reykjavík together, but my husband bailed and flew to Boston instead. I took the kids and went anyway. The three of us explored the city, drove out to the Blue Lagoon, and soaked until we were pruned and happy. On the dark road back, in the rain, we blew a tire. I found the spare, googled how to change it, put my phone flashlight in my mouth, and did it with my kids buckled in the back. A police officer pulled over to ask if I needed help. I told him we were all set.

That trip turned out to foreshadow everything: there would be potholes, and we would be okay. Still together, still warm.

I bought an armful of Teko at the duty-free shop in Keflavík. Back in Colorado I wanted more, couldn't buy it online, and eventually just emailed Sigrún to ask. That email turned into a friendship — and the friendship turned into becoming Teko's exclusive U.S. distributor.

Sigrún has a deep commitment to women in business. She has said yes to every ask I've ever made, including this one: bring Teko to America, make a Colorado blend, grow it however you see fit.

This relaunch is what I'm doing with that gift.
